Calculation result

Results are mathematical estimates based on the entered GSM and width. Actual usable length or weight may vary slightly because of selvage, finishing, moisture, shrinkage, cutting loss or manufacturing tolerances.

How to use the Fabric Converter

Select the direction of conversion, add the known GSM and width, then enter either the fabric weight or length. You can also add an optional unit price and currency.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is fabric weight converted to length?

The calculator multiplies kilograms by 1,000 and divides the result by GSM multiplied by fabric width in metres.

How is fabric length converted to weight?

The calculator multiplies length in metres by width in metres and GSM, then divides the result by 1,000.

Does the calculator use live currency exchange rates?

No. The currency selector labels the price supplied by you. It does not convert an amount from one currency into another currency using exchange rates.

Why can actual fabric quantity differ from the result?

Real fabric may vary because of finishing, moisture, usable width, selvage, shrinkage, roll tension and production tolerance. Use the result as a planning estimate.
